Flat view: best way to hide certain files?

In Flat View / Mixed, to be precise. The problem is that these files are scattered in a few subdirectories and I shouldn't rename them. Also filtering based on names / extensions would hide other files too so this won't work.

One solution I could use would be to hide them based on their description (one part of their description is always different than the files I don't want to hide) - is there a way to do this?

Failing that (but less desirable) would be a solution to put the unwanted files in a subdirectory to be ignored - but again, I was unable to find a way to hide a specific directory in Flat View.

If all else fails, should I just set the "hidden" flag for those files (there must be a better way to do it though)?

I guess there must be a simple and efficient method to do it?

If you consider to set special name "tags" in the desc field manually (i think this wouldn´t work, anyway), you could as well include them in the file names. Then simple HIDE filters would work & you could toggle those special hidden files.

Do you need the filter to be automatic, or would a one-off filter do (where you would have to click a button to apply the filter, and to re-filter it after any changes)?

Also, does it matter if the file display is dynamic (i.e. when files are added to the folders which may also need filtering out) or would a static snapshot do (where you have to click a button to generate a new filtered snapshot)?

If it doesn't need to be dynamic then you could use the Find Panel to generate the filtered, flat list instead of using Flat View / Mixed.

If it does need to be dynamic, but you don't mind having to click a button to filter the unwanted files out, then you might be able to use a button which applies an advanced filter, which matches by both name and location, to hide the files. (I haven't double-checked that this works but let me know if it sounds useful and I'll look at it in detail.)

If neither of those sound useful then I think you would have to mark the files as hidden or something similar.

abr: renaming is not an option unfortunately (it'd be easy if it were  ).

leo: not necessary for the filter to be dynamic, in fact I'll have to add the files from various subdirectories in the filter list manually (it's a growing sound effects archive with lots of files named identically that I'm in charge of). So a one-off filter that I update every few months whenever the archive changes would work well.

Also any kind of "search" would probably be a bit cumbersome because the archive is pretty big as is with lots of small files...
