Folder options on FTP site don't appear to be remembered

I'm not even sure if this is a bug or whether I'm doing something daft. Ring any bells with anyone before I raise it as a defect?

I log into a server via FTP.
I ensure I'm viewing the lister in "Details" view
I adjust the columns in the display, changing some widths/sizes, moving the "modified date" column and suchlike.
Once I'm happy, and the display in the lister is how I want it to remain I hit "save..."
I note that the "Save format for a folder" does indeed state "ftp://my_server.com/filepath"
I tick "replace this folder format in any layouts" and "save for subfolders"
Hit ok.
All looks fine.
Close that lister, open a new one and stare in dismay as that very same folder is back to the default layout.

Am I doing anything something stupid, as this isn't working as I expect it to.

"Ignore folder format of default lister" was turned on.

I read this to mean precisely the opposite of what it appears to mean.

User error.

It means any special format that was in use when the Default Lister was saved will be ignored, and the formats will instead come from the Preferences / Folders / Folder Formats list as appropriate for the folder you are in.

Essentially, it means the Default Lister should not override your normal folder formats.
