Folder sizes have be one of the few things why I still pay for dopus but in windows explorer now (with a windhawk and the plugin Better file sizes in Explorer details) the folder sizes are not just instant, the sizes are just there every time - no delay whatsoever... why can't Dopus make it happen?
same to me.
may be old SDK
It is instant for me.
Because that comparison is not fair, even with the old SDK, that program can get all the data with just one call to Everything, because:
- Only needs sizes, Opus also retrieves file counts. And you can't do that using the old SDK with just one call.
- All the data can be retrieved by simply asking for its immediate parent. Opus can't because of the expandable folders feature (which Explorer don't have).
All of this would be drastically improved when Opus adopt the new SDK. Afaik this will happen when Everything v1.5 gets a beta version.
First of all: Everything must be running in the background for this to work (i.e. the Everything icon is in the system tray / notification area).
Foldersizes provided by Everything should be instant in Directory Opus if the integration is correct.
Are you running Everything 1.4 or 1.5 alpha? (check Menu => Help => About Everything)
Everything 1.4.
Out-of -the-box, Everything 1.4 does not keep track of foldersizes.
To enable it:
- Go to Menu => Tools => Options => Indexes
- Enable/check Index Folder Size
- Press the OK button
Everything 1.5
- Make sure Everything 1.4 is no longer installed.
- In Everything 1.5, go to Menu => Tools => Options => Advanced
- In the right pane, in the Show settings containing: field, type or paste
alpha - Select alpha_instance from the list
- Set the value to false
- OK
- Back inn the main window, exit Everything completely: Menu => File => Exit
- Start Everything again
Technical background:
Out-of-the-box, Everything 1.5 alpha runs in a separate (named) instance to be able to run 1.4 and 1.5 side-by-side.
Directiory Opus uses the stable "1.4 SDK", that can't handle named instances. With the settings above, Everything 1.5 is converted to an unnamed instance, which the 1.4 SDK can handle.
The process will be much easier when 1.5 is out of alpha phase.
("alpha" means that new major features are still being added; it is very stable)
