Folder tab content not loading after clicking tab

Hi!

Starting with beta 13.9.2(?), I noticed that after loading a tab group and clicking on one of its tab, the content is not immediately loading. It is mandatory to click on a different tab and return to the first one to see some files in lister.

I observed this for network shares only, however, I did not see this behaviour before one of the latest updates. I've attached a short vid to demonstrate this.
Sometimes this happens with all (network share) tabs, sometimes I see it only with one of the first clicks only.

I the vid you will see when switching forth and back on the tabs, the listers content gets populated.

I may miss a new option that has been implemented recently and I did not be aware of.

OTH, when recoding this behavior with a screen recorder, as I did for this post, I noticed that the issue is not showing up that frequently than without recording. Maybe it's a screen refresh issue?

Edit: Same happens without opening a new tab group. I see this behaviour, too, when starting DO and the last active tab is one of the above, I guess it's an issue with network shares in general. Now the content is empty while switching the tab forth and back, fills up the listers items again.

Pressing F5 will also reload the content without having to switch tabs.

I can't see any change in 13.9.2 that's likely to have affected this.

Could you check with 13.9.1 and 13.9 to confirm which version(s) the problem happens with?

I've done some uninstalls and reinstalls of DO13.

  • DO 13.1 works OK for the steps described above
  • DO 13.7 works OK, too
  • DO 13.8 does not work anymore so don't any further versions

For testing purposes I've performed the same steps again and again to reproduce and was stuck with version 13.8.

Now gonna installing 13.9.2 again

FWIW, I do not see the behavior with local drives.

EDIT: I noticed an additional wrong behaviour for those tabs, maybe that's the source of the issue, maybe it's where you can start looking into.

At the time, I switch to the tab group and activate the tabs that actually do not show any content, I saw that the status bar is incomplete. The bar is missing the information icon that shows which folder format are applied.

This looks like:

After switching tabs forth and back, the status bar looks correct:

The popup shows

Switching off the folder format, a wildcard path, format does not solve this issue either.

Perhaps of any additional help: when switching the tab to "CH OrderConfirmation" or to any others in question, I see the progress popup inside the lister, for the a glimps of a second.

And again, next observation: when doing some screen recoding of this behaviour, I noticed that the tab content gets loaded immediatelly  How is that, no issues at all? Is it a timing problem or a graphical glitch? Please note that the issue was not there in version 13.7 and below, though.

Next one :face_with_open_eyes_and_hand_over_mouth: when moving DO from the left monitor to the second one, performing the same steps to reproduce, the content is loading without any problem :scream:

I couldn't resist doing further tests: when changing the size of DOs main window and switching tabs as before, the content gets loaded, too :ok_hand: It gets not loaded right after I did resizing. It still requires switching the tabs.

So, enough testing, hope you can solve this riddle for me...

HTH, @Leo and thanks for looking into :ok_hand:

If you disable all installed script add-ins, does the problem still happen?

All scripts disabled, same behaviour, though :frowning_with_open_mouth:

If you set everything under Preferences / Folders / Automatic Reading to "Load on tab activation" (or "Prevent loading"), does that make any difference?

@Leo you're da Man! That's it! Thanks! :ok_hand:
The setting for network drives was set to "load on tab activation".

Was this setting introduced in v13.8 or above since any lower version worked flawlessly?

Michael

That setting is old.

So it was already set to "Load on tab activation" when it wasn't working?

What did you need to change it to for things to work again?

Yes, it had this setting already, to be honest I even did not know about it or did not notice it before you mentioned it.
As already told, with version 13.7, the tab loaded without any modification of this setting. Perhaps it did not work as expected before v13.8, one never knows

Nada, it works for me now as expected. When I switch the setting to "load normally. But honestly, with this knowledge in mind, there is no issue at all. I've set it to "load on tab activation".
Seems a bit more convenient since the tab in question has many files which may result in some performance issues when loading immediately.

Thanks Leo!

Unfortunately I was wrong with my last words, sorry for confusion

This is my current setting:

And still, when the first click on the tab is done, the content is still not loading. When changing the setting to "load normally", switching to the tab in question, it works as expected.

So, the issue still exists: I'm loading a tab group and when clicking on one of its restored tabs, with a network share, it does not load the content.
Switching to a different tab and do a click again on the previous tab now loads its content.
The progress bar still popups up, reading folder, but no content is shown.

Any hint what I can do to solve this?

Only thing I can think of trying at the moment is sending us a config backup (via private message or to crashdumps@gpsoft.com.au), in case it's a particular combination of settings causing the problem. That might let us reproduce what you're seeing.

Thanks for looking into!

I've just send a mail to crashdumps@gpsoft.com.au subject "Forum posting: Folder tab content not loading after clicking tab".
