Every time when I connect my Galaxy Note 8 to PC and try to transfer media files e.i. photos or videos, program freezes in the middle of doing it. I thought it maybe was a problem with the previous versions of Directory Opus ( I had v. 10 and 11) so I decided to upgrade to version 12. Unfortunately, the problem persists. PC Win 10 x64, 8GB Ram and 1TB HD. I'm at my wit's end! Please help.

On Windows 10, make sure this is installed:
kb40167543 MTP driver update causes USB connected phone or portable device issue

If there are still problems, toggling Preferences / Miscellaneous / Advanced: mtp_enable to the opposite of its current setting will improve things with some phones.
If it doesn't help, reset it back to the original setting.
MTP is supported whether the setting is on or off, but when it is off Opus will delegate more of the MTP handling to Explorer than it would normally.

If you still have problems, I recommend not using MTP at all, and instead transferring files to the phone using FTP or SFTP. This involves setting up an FTP server/app on the phone, but is very simple.
You normally just download an app and tell it the username and password you want, then specify the same details in Opus to connect to it.
FTP is much more reliable, as there a bugs in both the Windows and Android MTP stacks, further complicated by vendors doing custom versions of Android. As a bonus, FTP/SFTP also works over Wifi, so you don't need to plug a USB cable in anymore. The only downside is it may be slightly slower, depending on your phone and type of Wifi network.
I kept having such problems just to find out that it greatly depends on the cable quality. If the hardware communication is not good it will stuck in the middle of some action. Try to buy something of better quality. Pardon me for unsolicited ad, but AliExpress has very good deals these days, such as Baseus or UGreen brands. I thrashed most of the extra cheap ones from eBay and exchanged them with those.
The other could be some car mirroring software that interferes with MTP function. I also had problems with that, but it hasn't actually blocked browsing or anything, but DOpus seemed confused - I couldn't use filtering and similar function, but only most basic ones.
That sounds like the shell was handling the folders rather than Opus. In that situation some features won't be there as they shell doesn't have them.
You'd get that with mtp_enable set to False but shouldn't see it if it's set to True. (Setting it to False can help with some phones, however.)
I got mtp_enable to TRUE and just testing. It seems better than last time, but I have removed that mirroring application in the meantime.
However, it seems that clicking on the folder from the treeview is not refreshing the file contents in the lister - just gets me blank lister. But, if I get back to root and get to the folder by double-clicking, then it works.
Thank you for your response. My mtp_enable was set to True, I have changed it twice, once to False and back to True. In both cases, there was the same problem. I have downloaded the KB40167543 fix but I got a message, that this program can't be install on this computer. Trying to figure it out how to set up the FTP connection. We'll see this week.
I'm also getting this problem with my Galaxy Note 4.
However it works fine with Windows File Explorer.
I don't see Miscellaneous in Preferences and a search for mtp shows nothing.
