FTP Issues

Hi,

We are having issues logging into our FTP drive via the Main log In, can't log in like we normally do nothings changed. We get a Error message trying to log in using the Main FTP Icon, our user names&passwords haven't changed.

So the only way to get into the ftp is via the mapped drives see screenshot.

Cheers,

The error message says "See FTP log for more details."

What's in the FTP log?

(Tools -> Output Window -> FTP)

Hey Leo,

Thank you for your help.
The error message says "See FTP log for more details."
What's in the FTP log? (Tools -> Output Window -> FTP)
Opening Connection xxxxxx.dyndns.org:21
FD_CONNECT - WSAETIMEDOUT: Connection timed out
Cannot Connect to Site.

But when connecting via the mapped drives and using login no issues.

BTW this has some good use for the Output Window.

Cheers,

Can you ping the same site?

Are you sure the mapped drive is trying to connect to the same site/IP?

Have you tried restarting Opus in case its process had cached the dynamic IP and it's now changed, or anything odd like that?

What happens with other FTP clients?

When I said the Output Window was obsolete I meant in the context of sending Find Results to it. The rest of the Output Window is still useful.
Can you ping the same site?
How is this done via comm prompt.
What happens with other FTP clients?
Do you mean other users?

You just type ping blah.dyndns.org and hit return.

Yes, but have you double-checked that it configured to connect to the same thing you're connecting to in Opus?

No, other FTP programs, e.g. Filezilla.

The FAQ on FTP not working has more suggestions of things to try, e.g. PASV mode on & off, firewall software, etc.
No, other FTP programs, e.g. Filezilla.
No because DOpus is used as our FTP program.

Hi,

Thought this screenshot might help.

As per our screenshot is ther correct settings.

Keeping in mind we are not having issues logging in via the mapped drives only the Main setup which we never had problems before.

Cheers,

That screenshot doesn't show anything about the site you're connecting to.

I've already given several suggestions of things to try above. Have you tried any of them? e.g. The FAQ I linked to, trying alternative FTP clients, telling us whether or not you have firewall software installed or comparing the setup of your mapped drives to that of Opus (for the FTP site you're trying to connect to, not the global settings page you're showing which is mostly irrelevant).

Hi Leo,
That screenshot doesn't show anything about the site you're connecting to.
I was thinking maybe the settings here have gone for some reason.

Can download and try a alternative FTP clieent but really don't like installing stuff unless we really have to. Disabled our firewall eset smart security just for good measure and also checked windows which is always disabled.

The mapped drives go to the same FTP site as Opus Main is trying to connect to as well.
Could a Windows Update break the DOpus ftp client for anyreason....

Cheers,

Have you tried Windows native FTP command line?

Hi,

Thanks everyone for your help on this.
Have you tried Windows native FTP command line?
Need a little help on how is this done.

Cheers,

From a DOS command line...
C:>ftp -h

Transfers files to and from a computer running an FTP server service
(sometimes called a daemon). Ftp can be used interactively.

FTP [-v] [-d] [-i] [-n] [-g] [-s] [-a] [-w:windowsize] [-A] [host]

-v Suppresses display of remote server responses.
-n Suppresses auto-login upon initial connection.
-i Turns off interactive prompting during multiple file
transfers.
-d Enables debugging.
-g Disables filename globbing (see GLOB command).
-s:filename Specifies a text file containing FTP commands; the
commands will automatically run after FTP starts.
-a Use any local interface when binding data connection.
-A login as anonymous.
-w:buffersize Overrides the default transfer buffer size of 4096.
host Specifies the host name or IP address of the remote
host to connect to.

Notes:

 • mget and mput commands take y/n/q for yes/no/quit.
 • Use Control-C to abort commands.
Hi Guys,

All fixed thank you for your help. Learning everyday for you experts thnx.

Cheers,

So what was the problem?

Hi,

After running test and ping the ip with the help from you guys. DOpus FTP works the way it should.

It had to do with the Dyndns.com host account they fixed it up all good now after a few emails.

But hey guys thank you again for your help and learning that little bit more everyday.

Cheers,

But what did you actually do in DOpus to fix the problem?

Well, his ping results for "xxxxxx.dyndns.org" showed he couldn't communicate to it (timed out same as Opus), so I'm assuming either their DNS was wrong or stale with an old IP address, and after looking at the "working" mapped drive buttons they updated their FTP settings or something similar?

Hey guys,

The issue was the with Dyndns updater client it didn't update for some reason nothing to do with DOpus.

It was in relation to the Dyndns Cliet updater software had stopped for some reason not updating the Ip address when Windows boots up.

All fixed and once again thank you for helping out.

Cheers,
