Google Chrome crashes when open a downloaded file

The symptom: Google Chrome (Stable and Canary versions) crashes consistently on the second attempt to open a downloaded file or the container folder.

The identified faulty module: windows_storage!TBCGetObjectParam+0x7e.

Technical cause: A memory access violation (0xc0000005 - INVALID_POINTER_READ). The instruction mov rax, qword ptr [rax+50h] attempts to read a null address (0x0000000000000050) because the rax register is set to zero.

The workaround that resolves the issue: Disable the DOpusContextMenu Class shell extension via ShellExView.

Important note: The bug occurs even when Directory Opus is explicitly set to “Do not replace Explorer,” because the hook DLL remains injected for context menus.

I have not seen that problem.

Which versions of Opus, Chrome and Windows are you using?

What type of CPU (x64, ARM, etc.) do you have?

(There was a similar issue with the DLL if Windows was set to Chinese, but that was fixed a long time ago.)

Directory Opus 12 / windows 11 24H2 set to French/ Chrome last update & canary / CPU Ryzen 3500x / chipset B550

No problem with Edge (or Firefox). I don't try unistall/reinstall Directory Opus or upgrade it.
I’d been looking for the culprit for three years. I suspected Chrome, WinRAR, Packet Manager, Fences, and so on—I never would have suspected Opus. But I finally fixed the problem after wasting a lot of time. I haven’t tried uninstalling my version yet because I’m afraid of losing my settings. In fact, I might not have the latest version, which is probably why I’m having this problem.

Sounds like the same bug that has already been fixed in Opus 13.
