For the context: I'm not an intensive user of this part of Opus.

TBH, all this is not very clear: in the same post:

  • You say you're not confused then say it's confusing
  • You seem to mix 2 things: the fact that you feel the Presets drop-down being next to "Advanced mode" is confusing (even though it's there wether the "Advanced mode" is ticked or not, which for me means it's not related), and the fact that you want groups inside that preset list.

Honestly, this is very hard to follow.

My point is that this thread has evolved from asking a group feature added to the filters list, which is something I can understand for people having lots of filters in their workflows, to a twofold discussion where:

  • The request for groups pops up frequently (quite logical since it's the initial goal of this thread)
  • A somewhat extensive discussion about the fact that Find presets and Filters are two differents things or not, the fact that the UI is unclear, ...

Despite explanations by Jon & Leo about the way it works [and not to mention that, at least to me, the documentation about the Find command gives explanation about what are Presets (PRESET argument) and how to use them, and what are Filters (FILTER and FILTERDEF arguments)], there still seem to be confusion about the fact that Filters and Presets are two different things.

Wether UI could be clearer or not is debatable, as often when you enter complex concepts representation in a space limited window. But the fact that those two discussion interlap one another makes it hard to understand what is the request.

As an example, after Jon's screenshots explaining the UI way of working:

Me: OK, so everything's fine.

Me: OK, we're back to inital request: implement groups in filters list.
But just after that:

Me:??? So .... it's not so fine and the request about it is unclear (unless "change it, it's confusing !").

Anyway, do not bother too much to answer this, as there is already much confusion in this thread, which was my initial intent to underline, no need to had more with side discussions which would aggravate further this confusion.

I donā€™t find the fact that there is ā€˜Simpleā€™ and ā€˜Advancedā€™ to be confusing. I never use Simple Mode. However, I know that the UI is confusing to many, with the Presets dropdown being next to the ā€˜Advancedā€™ checkbox. I did get confused by that aspect of the Find Panel a few years ago when I started using DOpus, but because I use Advanced filters so much, I quickly got used to the fact that I should not click the Presets dropdown arrow which is BESIDE the ā€˜Advanced ā€˜ check box. I think that aspect of the UI could be improved.

How horrible of me to have suggested a related U.I improvement in addition to my request for Groups to be available for saved Filters! Iā€™m clearly a terrible person.
