Help needed with illustrator thumbnail files

I would liketo be able to see illustrator thumbnail files using the images tab. Thumbnailed photoshop files using this tab are no problem, so why can't i do the same with illustrator files?
I also noticed a difference with both filetypes in the previewpane: photoshop files are shown normally there, but illustrator files are being shown using Adobe pdf reader? So what plugin is being used for photoshop then?

I searched the forum for a solution but didn't find anything that worked for me. Help would be greatly appreciated...

Do Illustrator thumbnails appear in Explorer?

Like Explorer, Opus does not understand Illustrator files by itself. You need a 3rd party component to provide thumbnails for them. I think Illustrator itself installs such a component but I'm not sure and have never personally used Illustrator. If Illustrator thumbnails don't appear in Explorer then they probably won't appear in Opus either.

Opus has built-in support for Photoshop files so no plugins or 3rd party components are required for those.

No, they don't. Thanks for the explanation about the built-in support, now i understand what's the difference.
Do you know whether Opus will get built-in support for illustrator in the future or do you have any knowledge how to find (and use) 3rd party software to get the tumbnails to work?

I know very little about Illustrator, sorry.

You could try sending GPSoftware a feature request.

A quick search of Google for "Illustrator thumbnails" also brings up lots of pages about installing a thumbnail component from older versions of Illustrator which Adobe inexplicably stopped providing, but it sounds like it only works with certain versions/files. Adobe did the same with Photoshop and seemed to claim it was Windows' fault, even though every other company in the world seems to be able to do things fine... After my dealings with fixing Adobe's own PDF thumbnail code for 64-bit -- something they still haven't done themselves -- I think Adobe are a bunch of muppets.

Well, thanks for the fast replies anyway. I came to the same conclusions using Google and indeed, muppets they are! Before the latest 3 versions of the Adobe Creative Suite it was possible to use thumbnails in explorer, but they've made that impossible in favour of their own "explorer" called "Bridge" (but Bridge is terrible, Opus is way better).
Anyway, another lesson learned today :unamused: , I think I will do a request for this feature. Thanks a lot for helping!

We just released a plug-in that uses our commercial PSD codec to provide thumbnails for AI and EPS files in DOpus.
