Hide specific files and folders?

Is this possible? I want to keep showing files that have hidden and/or system attributes set, but with some exceptions. In my case, I'd like to hide the "System Volume Information" and "RECYCLER" folders as well as the standard Windows XP system files, but only at the drive root (AUTOEXEC.BAT, boot.ini, CONFIG.SYS, IO.SYS, MSDOS.SYS, NTDETECT.COM, ntldr, pagefile.sys) because they clutter up the view (I have a few "non-standard" folders at the root of my system drive, and I'd like to keep it that way). I know I can do a global filter, but if files/folders with these names exist somewhere else I'd like to show them...

Set up Folder -> Folder Options -> Filters, then use Save -> For This Folder.

Quick follow-up question.. if I save the folder options with the filters specified, can I change the other settings (e.g. columns) and "exclude" the filters when saving? Or would I have to redo the whole process (apply settings for all folders, then re-apply filters).. ?

You can edit the Path Format in the list under Preferences / Folders / Folder Formats so that it only overrides the filters and inherits the other settings from the more generic formats.

Ah, wow.. totally overlooked this section. Thanks leo.
