High Handle Count in Directory Opus (Windows)

System Information

  • Directory Opus Version: Version 13.10 x64 Build 9004, 26/8/2024
  • OS Architecture: Windows 11 x64
  • CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 Pro 7840U (Integrated Graphics)

Directory Opus is accumulating an extremely high number of handles (227,358), which seems abnormal for regular usage. A few questions:

  • CPU Time: 00:51:52
  • Working Memory: 147,096 K
  • Peak Working Set: 707,580 K
  • Commit Size: 115,672 K
  • Page Faults: 17,719,819

Questions

  1. Is this handle count normal for Directory Opus?
  2. Are there known scenarios that could cause handle leaks?
  3. Are there specific operations I should avoid to prevent handle accumulation?

The process has been running with minimal load, and might be a gradual accumulation rather than due to intensive operations. Any guidance on troubleshooting or resolving this issue would be greatly appreciated.

Workflow

My workflow mainly involves unzipping, coping and moving, creating folders and files, and basic search. I don't heavily customise my DOPUS. However, I do use cloud services like OneDrive, Google Drive and iCloud.

Thank you.

EDIT: Shared workflow.

Seems strange ...
My values :

19k handles for 5 listers opened for several days, having performed quite a lot of actions (unzipping files, copy, move, folder creation, filters, scanning folder with columns that search for files in all subfolders, etc....)
EDIT : Page faults 176 M
EDIT2 : CPU Time 5:49:07

That's indeed very strange. I have a similar actions

Unzipping, coping and moving, creating folders and files. Basic search. I don't heavily customise my DOPUS too...

However, I do use cloud services like OneDrive, Google Drive and iCloud. I wonder if that could be the culprit.

1329 handles for 3 listers opened with 3-6 tabs
Page Faults: 200k

Thank you for sharing your stats. I've since upgraded to the latest stable build (Version 13.11, Build 9081 released 11 November 2024). I'll monitor the handle count and other system resources for the next few days and report on it if it ever reaches abnormal numbers again.

1,830 for Opus here. But over 26,000 for Rainmeter, for comparison. I guess, it's depending on the individual usage of the programs, and not too meaningful, as long as things are running smoothly.

High handle counts may be caused by shell extensions something else has installed, rather than Opus itself, especially if other people aren't seeing the same thing.

(Although it is also possible it's due to something else, of course.)
