It's unlikely to be Opus itself, unless you're doing something unusual with it.
High memory usage is usually due to bugs in shell extensions something else has installed.
Well I closed out Dopus and it went back to normal.
Then when I'm encountering this Godawful 'In Use' error again, the high usage happens again.
The viewer pane has been closed this time.

Could it be misreporting the resource usage because I launched the third party program using a button?
I think it's DVD Video Soft that has the memory leak.
