I have several other ones that keep working fine, so I'm assuming it has something to do with the function. All the others simply open folders, this is the only one that opens a file.
Also, my shortcut has always been a simple Alt+Z. I tried several other combinations, including the one you see here but nothing happens on key press. No errors, nothing. Using 12.20.5 x64.
What the Open verb on each file type does depends on the file type data in the registry.
Windows 10 updates continually trash some of my file types (so much so I've made .reg files to fix then every time it happens), but I've never seen a Win10 update trash all of them.
Tried these, they don't work: exe, pdf, rar, txt, mp4, docx, maff, cue and a few more. Anything that's set to open in an external program does not work.
Image files work. There's no Open but View in Directory Opus. They are set to open in the standalone Viewer.
Zip shows Open and works (opens within DOpus, not an external program).
edit: there is an Open function down the list for image files. Doesn't work.
Have not come across any file I can't open in Opus after the 2004 update. The only thing trashed was the Search Indexes, and given the extensive changes made to that sub-system, I guess you would expect it. Rebuilt the indexes in far less time of than the old system.
Maybe something will be apparent if you compare the file type diagnostic for one of the affected types between that machine and another where it's working normally.
You can generate a diagnostic via Settings > File Types and then File > Diagnostic from the menu at the top of the window which opens.
You can attach the diagnostic here if you want us to have a look for you.
The "open" action requires that there actually be an action called "open" in the registry (as opposed to "dblclk" which runs the default action for the file type). Maybe the Windows update has removed those registry verbs?
Comparing the diagnostic you sent (exe and txt) with my own system, nothing stands out as wrong in the registry, nor in the Opus file type overrides.
A couple of other ideas:
Do any other menu items in the same context menus work, or are they failing as well?
If you turn Preferences / Miscellaneous / Windows Integration / Hide Windows items on file context menus (shift overrides) and then reboot, does the problem still happen?
Cut/Copy/Paste work. Everything related to other programs works. A few items that seem related to Windows don't work, like Edit on .txt and image files.
Yes, still happens.
Don't know if it's relevant, but Open seems just a bit blurred. Or not, I'm not sure.
Looks like it's being DPI scaled. That would happen if the system DPI changed and Opus (or Windows) hasn't been restarted yet, or if you have multiple screens at different DPIs (on one screen or the other).
Sorry, I'm back at this with a question. Updating to W10 2004 now did the same thing on the second PC. The only problem with ACTION=dblclk is that it will open this .rar file with DOpus (using the RAR Plugin) while the now obliterated ACTION=open opened it with WinRAR, which is what I want for this hotkey.
Is there a way to make the hotkey open the file with WinRAR, while keeping the RAR Plugin enabled?
