How are categories for drives determined in the lister? Categories like Solid State Drives, Hard Disk Drives, Devices with removable storage.

I have some drives categorized as SSD, but they are HDD drives. Some drives are shown as HDD, but they are external USB Drives. I would think they would be classified as removable storage? Google Drive, a virtual drive, is shown as a HDD. I also have a Pcloud virtual drive and it's shown as a Devices with removable storage drive, but I can't eject it.

Thanks

It comes from Windows, which in turn gets the information from the hardware/driver for the drive or the controller/adapter the drive is plugged into.

Open the Windows Defrag tool and it should tell you which drives the OS thinks are SSDs and which it thinks aren't.

Thanks for the reply! I checked Windows Defrag and the drives that are HDD but shown as SDD in DO are also shown as SDD in the tool. It must have something to do with the enclosure drive interface or the drive. These are external HDD drives.

My Google drive shown as a HDD in DO, is shown as "Unknown" in the Defrag tool. Same for my Pcloud drive.

It's strange because Windows Explorer doesn't categorize drives like DO. I had never paid attention to it much before. :slightly_smiling_face:
