How can I change file icon association?

File icons are associated with software, so a doc file will have a ms word icon associated with the file type. That's fine if you want to open a doc file in word, but I have files I want to view without opening the associated software. I have psd files that I view with dopus viewer, so instead of seeing a photoshop icon I get a dopus viewer icon, is it possible to change the file icon without changing the application that opens it?

It's in -> settings -> file types -> system file types -> .PSD -> "edit" -> "change symbol". You can find the Opus symbol in its directory, if you want to use it. Or, if you wanted it the other way round, you can do the same using the PS icon.
