How Can I Sort Folders Like They Are Files

I have a lot of files that I need to group in to existing folders (magazine PDF's or MP3 files, for example). The like files all begin with a similar name, like "Newsweek July 2014" and I'd like to put them in to the "Newsweek Magazine" folder. The folders already exist in the same directory as the files.

So I assumed I could cause folders to be displayed and sorted with files alphabetically but I haven't been able to figure out how to display the folders and files in alphabetical order--folders are displayed before files (or vice versa depending on the Folder Options->Display settings). i want them all sorted alphabetically regardless of type.

Can I do this? What setting am I missing? Been all over Google and the forums and must be using the wrong terms because I can't find it.

If they were sorted alphabetically I could just select all the "Newsweek..." files and easily drag them to the "Newsweek" folder. I could use F6 to display the same directory with different views but it would be much easier to do it in alphabetical order.

I have thousands of PDF's to file away in this manner. The titles are say, 10-20 PDF's to go into the same folder, then on to the next title, but there are hundreds of folders so a hard-coded script won't work I don't think...if you know of an easier way, PLEASE elaborate! Even a commercial app would be welcome but it seems DO should allow me to display files and folders intermixed.

TIA,

Scott

There's a third option, that allows you to mix files & folders (in tools -> folder options -> display [tab] -> mix). Wouldn't that work for you?

So...I totally missed the third option. Dunno why but I only saw "Folders Before Files" and "Files Before Folders".

Thanks!!!

Scott

Took me a while to find this. In a current configuration it's Folder -> Folder Options. No involvement of Tools.

Hmm, sorry. In my config it's sitting there for many years, so i must have forgotten, that it is actually someplace else in a standard configuration.
