How to avoid a subfolder being collapsed when selecting another one?

When I have expanded a subfolder in the tree and select/expand another folder in the folder tree, the first one is collapsed. Is there a way to avoid that?
(Maybe because selecting another folder opens a new tab?)

For example: when I wish to copy the contents from folders \A \B \C to folder \Z
then folder \Z collapses when I move over from for instance folder \A to \B.

Thanks.

Turn off Preferences / Folder Tree / Options / Collapse non-selected branches

Thanks. That is turned off..
Could it have something to do with opening folders in tabs (?)
Just a wild guess, have no idea.
Fact is that sometimes the -in this case- destination folder stays open (like I wish) but most of the times it collapses. When I need to copy contents from various subfolders into 1 destination folder and have to expand the folder each time, it could be a bit annoying, hence this question.

If that's off then parts of the tree shouldn't normally collapse by themselves (unless the whole tree is being rebuilt).

Could you post some screenshots of how things look before and after the collapse happens? Maybe that will reveal a detail that helps work out what's happening.

I tried ... please find attachment.
ignore the funny folder names please
In this example the UAC folder is expanded, I go up and down some other folders - at some point it jumps in a way that the other drives are visible as well. As I expected that behaviour, I collapsed all drives before starting, at some point you see that one drive is expanded, even though it was collapsed before I started this.
At the end you see the UAC collapsed.
This is the best I can offer.

Thanks!

Were the drives there but just scrolled out of view before, or did something happen that made them be added to the tree when they weren't there at all before?

Could you show us how these two Prefs pages are configured?

  • Preferences / Folder Tree / Contents
  • Preferences / Folder Tree / Options

Below please find 2 other examples:
First 3: moving from folder to folder on drive Q: (all other drives collapsed), then D: drive is expanded

Last 4: same as reported earlier, but maybe giving a more clearer view on the matter: moving between folders on drive Q:
The last screenshot shows that a subfolder collapses.

No doubt it is an option that should be dis- or enabled, but which one... ?

Thanks

That definitely seems wrong, but I can't reproduce it so far, even with the same tree settings and after creating similar drives/directories.

Do you have any scripts installed? (Preferences / Toolbars / Scripts) That's one possibility that could cause unexpected things to happen when changing folder. If you do have any, please check if the problem still happens with them all disabled.

I have updated Opus from 12.20.1 > 12.20.3
In the release notes of 12.20.3, 2nd line, something is mentioned with regards to the tree.
I'll need to do some further checking later.
With this update Opus seems to behave a little differently now - will post a new thread on that.

Disabled all presets and initially it looked okay, but still ...
collapse all drives
select any drive
select another
select again another
then go back to the first one
C: drive is expanded.

collapse all drives
select a drive
select another
now in the tab (right window panel) go back to the first one
C-drive is expanded.
