I'm a bit confused by how to change the 'default' state of a toolbar's "Show label".
When I edit a button, I can change the 'Show label' to be:
default (aka 'below')
left
right
above
below
but how do I actually set what 'default' is? Aka I'd like all the buttons in this toolbar to have their label be shown to the left instead of below (which is what 'default' is currently).
The closest thing I could find is going into the toolbar's customize window, but the label state options are:
I think the "default" position comes from the type of toolbar it is.
When you create a new button, it will automatically inherit the settings from the button to the left of it. That's what's most important, in terms of defining how a new button looks on a toolbar. If you set all the buttons on a toolbar to look how you want, any new ones you create on the same toolbar (e.g. via right-clicking the toolbar or a button on it and choosing the New > Button menu item) will be similar.
Hey thanks for the super quick response, Leo. I see, I didn't realize that new buttons take the format of the one next to it, that's good to know cheers. The process still seems a bit confusing/tedious though if you want to experiment afterwards.
I'd like to suggest adding a "Show label default" setting in the Toolbar Customize window to change what 'default' means for the buttons in that toolbar. I think that would be very useful for changing all the buttons in the toolbar at once!
We've been thinking of replacing the whole toolbar-level settings with something that mass-edits the options for all buttons on a toolbar. It'd definitely make sense, but just hasn't reached the top of the list yet as it is something there are other ways to get done (albeit somewhat tedious, but not that time consuming really, having done it a couple of times myself).
