How to drag-n-drop selected file?

Hello. How to drag-n-drop selected file after it was viewed in Image Viewer with 'Link to lister' option?? i.e. every time i want to drag-n-drop the file I like, i need to deselect it first, then drop it on another app.
is there a way without deselction?))

Dragging a selected file should work the same as one that isn't selected, unless you're using Power Mode where the mouse buttons might be set to do something else.

yes, i use power mode and 'drag select' for left button instead of default 'auto-deselect' because with default option there is always one selected file (can't deselect it except of additional command 'select none' or middle button [but it is turned off because my background events doesn't work with turned on middle button with 'inline rename'])

and it seems to me that this is the mode [ 'drag select' ] I've been using in DOpus for the last 30 years and I can't adjust so quickly to another.

Try dragging straight to the right (or left) if using Power Mode options where dragging up and down does something else.

no luck
drag

any chanсe to update drag-n-drop? TIA

It already works fine for me at least.

Your video seems to indicate the mouse button is being clicked or released part-way through the drag, while still over the source file display? Are you trying to drag to the other file display, or into a sub-folder of the source file display?

any video with your cat?)))

with the same prefs?

i try to drag already selected file to another file display and as you say

P.S. it works with auto-deselect, select only right way, but i don't use it
and full toggle works partually (when drag on a new, unselected file. if i try to drag on selected file - no luck)

Same as far as I can tell.

Video isn't very interesting, it would just show the files being dragged from one side to the other.

Your video indicates the mouse button is clicking or being released while you're dragging the file. Or, at least, the yellow circle around the pointer is flashing at the point the drop stops, which means the mouse button is being clicked in most capture tools that draw a similar circle.

Is drag going wrong anywhere else, e.g. when moving or resizing windows? Maybe your mouse button has dust in it or needs replacing?

just tested five mouses (logitech, razer, microsoft), they all are fine. same result (only deselects selected file first). it works only with "auto-deselect", "select only" modes, not in "drag select" mode

P.S.
reseted configuration. just changed left button to "drag select" and... same behaviour... only deselects selected file or drag all with one new selection. (w10 or w11 - no difference)

Any idea why the video seems to show the mouse button clicking during the drag? If that's happening and not just me misunderstanding the video, and since the screen-capture tool is seeing the same input, it must be coming from the input device (or something more exotic generating mouse input, like a macro/automation tool).

sorry, i can't see an extra click in my video. only the one click (red circle) to try to drag the file, it deselects it instead.

Looking at your second video again, drag & drop is working fine as far as I can tell.

The only time it fails there is when you try to drag a deselected item. (And you probably don't want drag & drop and selection-toggle to be on the same mouse button as a result, but it can still work as long as you click again, if the file was already selected and the first click deselected it, then start dragging.)

It's only the first video/gif that seems to show an extra mouse click apparently cancelling the drag when it has already started. The second video looks fine to me.

that's the aim:
in "drag select" mode i want to drag already selected files without needing to deselect them first or select an extra file. possible? (exactly as in "auto-deselect", "select only" modes but without deselection)
(I apologize for my English, maybe I explained it wrong from the very beginning)

AFAIK that isn't possible with that button mode, since the first click will deselect the file, and then you can't drag it without clicking it again to select it.
