How to expand a folder and all its sub folders?

I have an "Expand all"-context menu item, which reads: Go GROUPEXPAND *
So far I have been expanding folders manually, so I didn't bother / notice that the Expand All thing didn't work.
In the folder tree I select a folder and want to have all the sub folders expanded.

How to do that? Should I use a different command ?

Thanks.

Go GROUPEXPAND * is for grouped files, not collapsed folders. Have a look in the Folder Tree Options, this seems to cover what you want, at least for the first level.

Thanks.
I've got the same options tagged. When I double click the folder, it expands 1 level only collapses back.
The folder contains 8 sub folders, each containing a few sub sub folders.
As said, I expand them all 1-by-1, but was hoping to be able to have them all expanded with 1 (double click)

Thanks.
One more thing: please could you additionally give me a tip as to how to avoid the cursor jump into 'Filter'-box when I use the numpad *
I can't get the numpad * to do this expand action.

You can also do it using the mouse, if Preferences / Folder Tree / Options / Expand/collapse all child branches when parent double-clicked is turned on.

You have to click on the folder tree before pushing Numpad *. It sounds like you're pushing the key when the file display has the focus rather than the tree.

I am sorry to keep on nagging on this. I am sure I selected the parent folder in the tree. I tried that over and over. Numpad * results in the cursor showing up in the filter box.

The option in preferences is tagged: double click results in expanding 1 level only and collapse back.

I'm on a PC which doesn't have a numpad at the moment, so it's hard to test the exact same thing, but pushing the normal * key (i.e. Shift + 8) while the folder tree has focus doesn't open the filter bar here.

If you've created a custom lister hotkey for * to open the filter bar (rather than doing it through Preferences / File Displays / FAYT and Filter Bar Keys) then that might explain why it isn't working.

Make sure you double-click the [+] or [-] icon and not and not the folder icon or label:

  • Expand/collapse all child branches when parent double-clicked : When you double-click a folder's expand/collapse icon, the first level of its child folders will also be expanded or collapsed.

Shift+8 indeed is configured to display the filter bar ("set quickfilter").
Frankly, I wouldn't know whether or not that is default.

..later ..

I found it: initially, when I went into Preferences>Customize Toolbar - I vainly tried to find anything with 'numpad *' : only 3 items were listed (Shift+Num) * + and -
Not just num or numpad. Hence I wasn't able to figure out why it did not work.

But I just found Num * somewhere at the top, immediately after the F-keys and was indeed configured to display the filterbar.
I disabled it. Numpad * works fine now.

Thanks!

b.t.w. after num * and then num - a simple click on the root folder displays all sub sub sub folders again, same as num *
how to avoid that, meaning that num - really collapses in a way that expanding will be just by 1 level again, not the entire tree.

Press - a second time.

Thanks again.

Just for good order's sake:
1st time numpad - : collapse sub folder (i.e. ParentFolder in the above screenshot)
2nd time numpad - : jump from Parent Folder to to root folder, i.e. in above screenshot only drive I: is visible, no folders.

Assume that is the correct behaviour?
