How to find duplicates ignoring the suffix (file type)?

I'd be grateful for any advice as to how I can search (find...) files ignoring the file suffix. Specifically, I am looking to find duplicates.

e.g. I have documents in the following file types (doc, docx, html) and want to be able to quickly find any duplicates.

I would also like to be able to do this with my music collection where I have some duplicates with mp3 and AAC (etc) formats. Come to think of it, I probably have duplicates among my video files as well (flv, avi, etc).

Suggestions gratefully received.

p.s. There are specialist tools out there that will do this, but it seems a pity that such features are not apparently available in DO. (It is entirely possible they are there, and that I just couldn't find them....

Might I suggest that, if they were available, DO would become even more desirable and popular? See http://www.mindgems.com/products/Fast-Duplicate-File-Finder/Fast-Duplicate-File-Finder-About.htm for an example.

So you mean find files with the same names, ignoring extensions and also ignoring actual file contents?

Hi Leo,

Yes. Same file name, ignore extension/suffix (file type), and ignore contents.

Note that the program I mentioned has a file name similarity option to find files with a similar name which has also been very useful.

e.g. A few different versions of the same work in my music collection. In this case some of them are identical and others are the same work but different performances. At least this way I have the choice of being able to identify possible duplicates.

02 Beethoven_ Symphony #5 In C Minor.m4a
01 Beethoven_ Symphony #5 In C Minor.m4a
003 Beethoven Symphony No 5 Klemperer Philarmonia 3,4-cr.mp3
03 Beethoven_ Symphony #5 In C Minor.m4a

There's no way to do "fuzzy" similar-name duplicate searching like that at present.

The duplicate finder in Opus can only currently match based on exact filenames or exact file contents.

You could request it, though.
