How to lock favorites folders so that they won't disappear when the mouse inadvertently moves them instead of clicking on them?
Where are you clicking/moving them exactly? They can be shown in several places.
Are you seeing that with the latest version, or something earlier?
I have a toolbar showing my favourites branches in the form of tabs. When I click on a tab, a list of shortcuts to various folders appears below. The problem is that if I don't click neatly in the middle, the whole branch is moved to "nowhere" and all the related shortcuts disappear and are nowhere to be found. There is no confirmation message along the lines of "are you sure you want to do this", and no way to undo this involuntary move. I then have to rebuild the whole list of shortcuts. This happened to me a few times recently, while it never happened before although I have been using DO for years.
I am currently using Directory Opus 13.6 Build 8890 x64 | OS 10.0 (B:22631 P:2 T:1) SP 0.0
Could you show a screenshot of the tabs? Are they really tabs or just buttons?
If they’re buttons on a toolbar, are we talking about the stock Favorites Bar, or something custom? (If it’s custom, please let us know the command that generates it.)
The stock Favorites Bar
In 13.6, dragging those shouldn't do anything except reorder them (or move them into a sub-branch, if dragged over one). I can't get it to make them vanish, at least.
What needs to be dragged to where to make it happen?
If you click and drag the branch down, a context "move favorite folder" message appears next to the mouse cursor. While you cannot drag it down to the middle of the screen, if you drag it down by only a tiny bit (one millimeter), it will vanish when you release the mouse button, and you won't be able to retrieve it anywhere.
Would there be a way to "lock" this group of favorite folder branches, to ensure they may only be modified using the "Edit your list of favorite folders" button?
I can't reproduce that with Opus 13.6.0 through 13.6.3:
It could depend what's under the favorites bar (what it's being dragged on to), perhaps. A screenshot of the whole window might reveal something.
Thanks! I've reproduced it now. (That isn't the normal Favorites bar, which is why it didn't happen for me without the extra detail.)
On my side, I had not realized that there was another Favorites bar. I am exploring it now, but - unless I am mistaken - it does not have the same functionality of being able to group Favorites into branches. As such, I would still be very grateful if the "disappearing branches" issue could be fixed in the "other" Favorites tool.
This has been fixed for 13.6.7. Many thanks for all the details.
You can still do that with the Favorites Bar. The only real difference is that it shows a sub-branch of Favorites, rather than the top-level, but you can have more branches below that level.
Thank you so much!
Outstanding!
