Is there a way to specify which frame in a video file should be used for a thumbnail? I have a bunch of WMV video files. Each one begins with the same short intro sequence. In DOpus, the thumbnails of all these files look exactly the same. This makes them useless because I can't tell the files apart. I assume that thumbnails for video files are created simply by looking for the first non-black frame. I really wish there was a slider of some sort that would allow me to select a thumbnail frame that is really unique and clearly identifies the video content. That's how menu thumbnails are handled in various DVD authoring apps.
Another solution would be to let the user specify how far into the video file DOpus should look for a thumbnail frame (e.g. 30 sec into the file, 1 min. etc). This would help avoid intro or credit sequences. I'd gladly take the one-time performance hit when creating thumbnails over not being able to tell the files apart at all.
I used it to create thumbnails for my videos so that all of them now have identically named JPG's representing the desired frame. Which means
I see twice as many thumbnails as I should. I sent in a feature request to GP Software to implement a lister mode where the thumbnail for a video file is replaced by the identically named JPG (if it exists). From what I read, Vista/Win7 has such a mode (I'm still on XP).
As far as hiding the JPG's: I already have a batch file that processes all my video files. I can add one more command to add the "hidden" attribute to the JPG's.
Read the original message in this thread. Black frames are only part of the problem. I have several videos that start with the same intro sequence. All their thumbnails look the same. You can't tell them apart.
