The standard operation of most Windows program is to be able to click on an item, scroll down and shift click and all of the items in between will be selected. I've never been able to do this in DO and I'm wondering if I am missing a setting? It works when I'm connected to an FTP site so it would seem to be a setting but I'm not able to find it, if there is one.
Sounds like you might have Power Mode turned on... if you really want Power Mode, then go to Settings->Preferences and enable the Range selection with SHIFT key option on the File Display Modes->Power Mode page...
Thank you. That did it.
The main thing Power Mode brings is the ability to modify the standard mouse and keyboard behaviour.
So, if you want standard mouse behaviour, you're probably best off using Details mode. (That's what I use myself.)
Details mode gives you standard behaviour, plus a few extras on actions that don't have any standard meaning (e.g. you can toggle-select with the middle mouse button, like a ctrl-left-click without having to touch the keyboard).
Thanks for the suggestion. I've always used power mode. Maybe it has changed over the years but, as I recall, details mode didn't have the control power mode did. Or maybe I just never understood it. In any event, I just tried switching to details mode and lost the drag select ability. I don't see a place for that in the settings. Am I missing something?
There is a pretty detailed description of the way the modes work in the Help (F1) or the online manual.

Ah, in that case Power Mode is the right mode to use, since Power Mode's drag-select option isn't part of Details mode (since it's not standard Windows behaviour).
(Details mode still supports standard lasso selection, which is similar to drag-select, for anyone reading who is worried about that.)
Thanks for the clarification.
