Howto... Change the selection mode

While clicking to rename a file... By default it selects the filename itself without the extension.(Of course it's possible to cycle with F2 or select manually). Is there any way to change which comes first?

Go to Customize -> Keys and change the F2 key from

rename inline

to

rename inline=all

That works for F2. Not for when you click the file 2 times or when you right-click->rename.

Yep seconded I tend to do a lot of right click renaming

You can tweak your right click rename context menu command for "all files and folders" to use the command Leo mentioned above. Then it should select the entire name when you do a right click rename.

SETTINGS/FILE TYPES/ALL FILES AND FOLDERS/EDIT/CONTEXT MENU

and change the rename command from the default:

rename "%2" INLINE="%1"

to:

Rename INLINE=all

What about when selecting a file and just clicking once on the file name?

Is there a way to change that? I'm not sure to be honest. Not that I can remember.

You can press ctrl-a to select the full name as you start typing, if you want to overwrite the extension.

Talking of which... When doing ctrl+a in the adress bar it does not select the whole path, any way to do that?

I don't know how to change that, but I think it will work by default in the next version which should be out soon. (Hopefully divulging this small change won't get me in trouble with GPSoft.)

On my machine just clicking once in the address bar selects the entire path.

In opus 8 in detail mode I could click on a file twice to enter inline rename mode. In opus 9 this no longer seems to work in detail mode, any suggestions?

That still works here, as does a single long click on the file.

Are you definitely in Details mode and not Power Mode (which might behave differently, depending on configuration)?

Single long click works in power mode only, but clicking a file twice does not enter inline rename in either mode as before on my machine.

On checking I have found inline rename works when I click a file twice on the desktop in details mode. It also works fully in the following modes

Small Icon
List
Thumbnail
Tiles

The Desktop is controlled by Explorer so it should always be the same as in Explorer. Is it just normal folders where you have the problem?

BTW, it isn't strictly clicking a file twice that starts the inline rename. It's clicking a file that is already selected. Don't know if that helps narrow it down.

You are right, just a problem in normal folders. System folders work as expected. (Using F2 works fine by the way).

You are right here, just didnt know the best way to describe the action.

Have you tried clicking at different speeds? Depending on your mouse settings the two clicks might be interpreted as double-clicks?

Yes, tried at various delays. I am starting to think this is a machine issue as opposed to an Opus one. What I have just tried...........

Exited Opus, then ran the copy on my USB key. Inline rename not working fully.
Then run the same usb version on another machine, and inline rename works flawlessly.

This tells me that the problem does not lie in the Opus config files.

I'm seeing this same issue in version 9 regarding inline rename in both the Details and Power modes but inline rename is ok in other modes such as large icon, small icon, thumbnail. The left-hold-click function on a file in Power mode will also activate inline rename ok. Windows Explorer works as it always has... click, wait, click will activate inline rename. Did not have this issue in version 8.

I have since found if I create a new user account, inline rename works flawlessly in detail mode, but as I have so much installed in my current user account, which includes a lot of work items, I am a bit reluctant to abandon it just for inline renaming.
