Why cram all the image viewing/management software functions into dopus? Especially when you already have suitable tools;

I'd say that the loading speed does affect real-world usage for anyone using DOpus in workflows involving very large images. The continuous switching test was just to illustrate the issue at hand.
The impact is still felt when working with small batches/sets of large images. For example, mouse-wheeling through photography sessions and image bursts, or AI image workflows that generate very scaled up results alongside the original and intermediary images.

For standalone image viewing apps, its actually a lot the other way around, where they have to cram a lot of file management/navigation functionality into their own app, where its impossible for them to bring in all the features and scripting of DOpus.
I think enhanced image caching options would be worthwhile to address this pain point. Losing all of DOpus's scripting and integration (e.g. linked listers) with the viewer to use another app instead, just because it has better image caching isn't a great tradeoff.
