Is filter settings affecting search speed?

When searching lots of files I've often thougth that when filtering the right way, the search would be faster, but is this really true?
Like x is bigger than 500Mb makes the search skip looking through many small files( like web cache and such). Then again it would have to look to know what files to skip...

It depends on what the filter is actually doing. Checking the file size will be almost instant. Searching the actual contents of the file will take a relatively long time.
