I have been using the Everything global search, but today have been trying out Listary, which has some nice features I could use. Is currently possible to select Listary from the search field instead of Everything? (I cannot find anything in options, wonder if it's planned in a future build?)
I fear this may be a bit too confusing a request. Is the idea to get the same kinds of results as Listary or just files like with Opus and Everything Search? Or to pop up Listary and its results from the Opus search input?
The Everything integration is basically just an alternative to Opus' own search, using a different protocol, whereas Listary gives different results and shortcuts altogether.
I thought it would be useful to add Listary as an alternative search to Everything - as it provides 'light' results and is very affective in launching web searches and programs.
Honest question : What would be the difference in terms of results here? Would it be the same or not?
And more importantly, this is not up to the DOpus team, Listary doesn't provide any SDK/API to make this possible.
And one more thing, although this is more of a personal opinion: have you use the latest Listary version available? There's no comparison in terms of usability between Everything and Listary. Better expend some time learning Everything's basics IMO.
Thanks for you comments. I have been using Everything for over ten years. I know it inside out!
Enough said.
I use and love Listary daily, for a few years. and everything for about 10 years.
Thou I actually have it disabled from interacting with dopus. I use it to quick switch with open & save dialogs from all other software.
Dopus and everything are butter general search\navigation tools. Listary allows you to create "aliases" to you're frequent areas, much like dopus, it calls the "commands" I've set these to match what I have in dopus for faster muscle memory.
@g4uol in listary you can set its hotkey to call its search panel in the active dopus lister, upon selections it will change the dir location.
@errante I've still using the old v5 of listary. its look very old, like early win7 era old. lol but i found it to be more powerful and simple. .... with v6 they did a major gui overhal to make it modern, in the process they pulled out features which they've been extremely slow to put back.
that being said i just noticed last month they relased an big feature of update for v6, their first and only update in over a year so maybe ill take peek.
just checked out the new v6.3 and.... after 10 min i went back to v5.
they changed their focus to be a little more like everything but not as powerful
its new search algorithm makes no sense.
i was searching "AppData" and it was showing my every other copy, from backups and other drives {i have 9 hdd in this machine}, of appdata except for the folder in my current C drive. even on the drives i told it not to index.
it imported my v5 settings, and it ignored most of the customization & indexing rules i set up
so yeah. I'm sticking with v5
if you use dopus's alias system its incredibly easy to implement in v5 with the batch add. make your list, copy & paste, done.
in v6 these have to be added one at time under filters... its just clunky and messy but pretty in new skin they say.
Thank you. Your thoughts have been very interesting to read and helpful.
