Is there a fallback option when Everything is used in the Search field?

Hi,

I use Everything as a search engine in my Search field. It is perfect.
Unfortunately, when I need to search for something on the network, it doesn't find anything and I need to manually switch the search engine (to Opus search for instance), then I need to remember to switch back to Everything once I'm done.

Is there a way to automatically use another engine when a search is beyond Everything scope ?

I thought I read something about this, but couldn't find anything on the forum nor in Preferences.

Thanks

Maybe not automatically, but maybe you can work around using the QUERYENGINE command, adjusting it to use the Opus search in a dedicated button.

Find CLEAR QUERYENGINE=everythingglobal

Add the network folder for searching.

both suggestions could work but they would only be workaround.
Creating a button would still require a manual action each time I need to switch engine.

Adding network folder in Everything would only help for specific destination. The targets I search are not always known in advance and it wouldn't be efficient to index several network destination constantly.

I think it would be smarter and more reliable to have a fallback in case the target is not known by Everything.

Would this actually be helpful? After all, you’d also need to switch to a different search syntax. In the end, it might just create more confusion, leading to more complaints about the search not working properly.

Agreed. Also, they use different search syntax, so you can’t reuse the same query between the two.
