I have a Xperia phone and Opus cannot reliably transfer files to and from my phone. It causes my PC to freeze and I have to log off and log back on again. Seems like this issue goes back to 2013 or 2017.
As far as we can tell the problems are caused by bugs in Android and Windows rather than Opus.
Using FTP or SFTP instead of MTP is a good alternative on phones that have issues with MTP.
I know this thread is a year old, apologies for that but I felt it better than opening another new thread while this one describes my issue somewhat as well, though my PC never hangs fully. I want to weigh in a bit with my experience. I have a Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra which is fully up-to-date and I'm using the original Samsung cable, connected directly to my PC, so no hub in use and I've tried all my USB ports, spread across all USB standards, 2.0, 3.1 and 3.2 (no 4.0) which all produce the same result
If I try to copy files from my phone to my PC through directory opus, it either starts transferring really quickly, at max USB speed, then it stalls before the first (large) file is copied or it just immediately stalls at the start of the transfer. Subsequently directory opus either just sits there and it never finishes (or even begins) the transfer or it locks up completely until I disconnect my cable
I read the MTP issues thread so I thought "oh, probably a Windows explorer issue then" but no, explorer.exe copies the same files without issue again and again, without a single hiccup, using the same cable same USB ports across all USB standards and at full speed of that particular port
Okay, so I thought to use the advanced setting to disable MTP in directory opus, as the thread suggested doing that. Consequence is that my phone, while still showing in directory opus, completely refuses to open in the file browser. It just doesn't respond to a double click and just sits there. Well, it does respond, the file browser pane turns black and half of the time directory opus turns unresponsive but that's it
So, copying files to and from my phone is totally impossible, unless I use Windows explorer
Minor nag of course in the scheme of things, because it doesn't change the fact that Directory Opus is a stupendously powerful piece of kit and on the whole it works almost flawlessly but I thought it might be useful to weigh in with my experience nonetheless. I hope this gets fixed at some point
(Oh, I also added dopus to my antivirus exceptions, so that's not the issue either)
I encountered the same issue some time ago. The solution, as Leo suggested, is to use FTP if you have wifi. Just download a good phone file manager with FTP capability (I have Android and use xplore https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.lonelycatgames.Xplore&hl=en_US). Install and configure the app.
Then create an Opus Directory FTP profile for the phone, with a username and password like you would use to access a website, grab the phone's IP address and you can transfer file at much faster speeds than USB using MTP protocol.
Hope that helps.
