Large favorites icons in 12.20.5 beta

having installed the latest beta, the large favourite icons option is always on, how do i get the small icons back? the "Large Image Size" checkbox is unticked

i want large icons for the toolbar, but small icons for the favourites folder as my favourites list is now the full length of the screen

You've probably got the whole toolbar set to override individual button sizes. Make sure this drop-down is set to default for the toolbar in question, then adjust individual sizes as desired:
