Begin lasso on filenames with shift. I have that option set to full row. I understand that it seems to only be for details file display but I would like this to work with thumbnails as well. Would be nice to be able to select with lasso those thumbnails/images.

That option was added to make it easier to use the lasso in details mode when there are no empty places to click (because of full-row selection).
There are usually plenty of empty spots between thumbnails where you can begin the lasso from.
(hopes for the future) would mean no gaps between thumbnails.
I know what you mean but when I set to have no pixels between each thumbnail, it becomes more difficult to find a spot. It would be a nice addition to be able to use that lasso in any view. The option is there already, expanding it a bit more would help us.
The lasso only allows rectangular captions, so it wouldn't be that useful in many cases without further action. But you can hold Ctrl and point at the files to have a finer selection.
