Letter o opens 2 instances of DO

When typing the letter o, 2 instances of DO appears on the desktop. It doesn't affect capital O.

You might have a hotkey that does something when that key is pressed.

Check under Settings > Customize Toolbars and Keys, then on the Keys tab select "All Keys" and push the o key in the search field at the bottom left to find any hotkeys that use that key.

It was set to Toolbar: Image Viewer Original Size. Unchecking that solved the issue, and enabling it again didn't reproduce the issue. So it appears to be all good now.

I also have this happening but it is random. It starts happening randomly when Opus is not in focus (for example it started when I was typing this reply). When it starts, hitting the WIndows key twice makes it stop happening. Also, hitting Windows+o will open the 2 instances but this is not anything I configured.

Have you checked the hotkey list?

Win+O was a default hotkey some time ago, so it's probably left over from that. O on its own shouldn't do anything though.

No assignment for Win+o. Hotkey list shows o is assigned to Toobar: Image Viewer, Original size.

Summary:

  • Happens randomly but not very often
  • Opus is not in focus (I'm actively using the browser)
  • never happened ever in version 12
  • no hotkey assignment for Win+o
  • no hotkey assignment for any combination of the o key to open a new instance of Opus

Next time it happens, hover over the info icon in the status bar to find out why the windows opened. Let us know what it says.

After that, try turning off Explorer Replacement, then see if either nothing opens or File Explorer windows start opening.

OK, some new information:

  • maybe not so random, happens every time after unlocking Windows
  • info says the lister came from 'Command: go new'
  • turning off Explorer Replacement doesn't change anything, 2 instances of Opus are started
  • after hitting Win key twice or Win key/Escape problem goes away until next time I lock/unlock Windows

Are you locking the machine with Win + L?

Sounds like the Windows key is being seen as down when it isn't (or isn't meant to be down). Maybe an OS or keyboard driver bug (or just a sticky key :)).

Although if that is the case then other keys should be doing other things, e.g. L would act like Win + L as well. So I don't know if it really explains it.

Another thought: Have any/all of you made any multi-sequence hotkeys (where you push one hotkey, then another, to trigger a single action)? Most people don't use them, but if we have a bug in that code it could conceivably trigger the wrong hotkey.

I didn't, it was a default installation which has only been installed a few hours when I encountered this issue.

I didn't and I don't believe I have any hotkeys defined other than the default. I'm not seeing other errant actions so I don't think it is some kind of stuck key situation (virtual or literal). Plus, did not have this issue with version 12..

And the issue resurfaced again. I haven't made any changes, nor locked the computer.

If you right-click Opus on the taskbar, then right-click the program name and choose Properties:

Does the dialog that appears say a Shortcut Key has been assigned to launch Opus?

Not on mine.

Not on mine either.

What is weird though, following your initial advice:

Check under Settings > Customize Toolbars and Keys, then on the Keys tab select "All Keys" and push the o key in the search field at the bottom left to find any hotkeys that use that key.

It was set to Toolbar: Image Viewer Original Size. So I unchecked it yesterday, and the issue went away. I enabled it again, the issue was still non-existent. This morning when I used the computer again (it hasn't been turned off since yesterday), the issue was back.

So I unchecked it and enabled it again, and the issue is once again none existant. I'm waiting to see if if and when it returns.

It's odd if it is the Viewer / Original Size hotkey, as the toolbar that is on would not normally be active anywhere except the standalone image viewer, and the command it runs wouldn't open a new lister/window.

Could mean the hotkeys are messed up in some way, perhaps.

If anyone seeing this problem wants to send me a config backup, I can see if anything looks wrong in the config. (Settings > Backup & Restore to make the backup, then click my icon to send a private message. If you haven't used the forum much before and the PM option isn't there, let me know and I can fix that.)

PM sent.

Have been following whats been happening and it also happens to me have looked at all the suggestions
One thing I have not seen is any mention of is that if in customize mode it does not happen may be a help not sure

Another update.

Regardless of the Toolbar: Image Viewer Original Size setting for the letter o, the issue is back once the computer has been locked (Win + L) and unlocked. It appears to happen whether the letter o is pressed in Firefox, Word, Skype, but interesting enough not on Notepad++.

We think we've found the cause of this. Fix coming in the next beta.

Many thanks for the report and all the information!
