List Preferences changed from default

Is there any way to export/print/list all the Preferences which have been changed from the default settings?

There are a LOT of Preference settings and I've been using DO for more than a decade, since DO 10 at least and I've completely lost track of what I've changed over time. Maybe some were bad choices and I'm tempted to start from scratch, looking at things from a new perspective, but I'd like to see what I've fiddled with in the past.

I know it's a long shot but I thought I'd ask.

Thanks!

Not in general. Some settings are stored only if they differ from the defaults but most are not.

The easiest way to compare configs is probably to take screenshots of your settings (or the defaults) and then compare them.

You can also Reset specific Preferences pages to see what the defaults are, and then Restore or Cancel to undo that. That might make the most sense if it's just particular settings you're worried about.

Comparing XML config files is also an option, but many of the checkboxes are stored as bit fields which aren't easy to read by hand.

Thanks Leo, appreciate the quick reply.

I was going to do the screenshot exercise but your reset idea is better.

Hi Leo, I was going to ask this exact question but came upon this thread from March 2023. In the time since you answered the question 16 months ago, I'm wondering whether any other tool or technique to achieve this has hit your radar?

I purchased the upgrade to Dopus 13 (from 12) but haven't installed yet because:

  • I want to perform a clean install since I think I made old, forgotten setting changes that might be problematic now
  • BUT there are also important customizations I know I will need to re-implement
  • I'd like a way to list all the tweaks I made before moving to Dopus 13 but also:
  • I'm embarrassed to admit I never got round to properly learning enough of the program's functionality, and I'm concerned I might overlook an area in the settings if I attempt your suggestion of going through each page of settings and resetting / cancelling changes (notwithstanding how laborious that task would likely be :see_no_evil: )

Thanks!

No change here from the answer above.

There are so many settings - set and forget is the usual method I suspect most people use, having some way to check what settings have been changed from default would be helpful - please put on the feature request list.
