Lister shortcuts from preferences not loading on XP desktop

I saw the tip recently posted that you can drag and drop Lister shortcuts to the desktop from the Preferences dialog box. Well, I did this and it was working perfectly...until today.

For some strange reason when I clicked on the shortcut the lister wouldn't load. Just to be sure I wasn't imagining things...I stopped the DOpus process, restarted it and then doubleclicked the desktop to see if Dopus would load. It did...but the shortcut to the lister I wanted still wouldn't load. I right clicked the desktop in XP and was able to select the lister I wanted in the right click menu and was able to load the lister I wanted. But the shortcut died?!

Something doesn't add up. I'm using the latest release of DOpus for Windows XP 32 bit version and I have a gig of RAM. Any ideas on what's going on?

I just removed the shortcut and created a new one. Now it works...but I don't understand this intermittent behavior. Why would the shortcut work a few days ago and now it won't?

I shouldn't have to replace a lister shortcut to get to the one I wanted if it worked a few days ago. It doesn't make sense.

That'd happen if you renamed the Layout after creating the shortcut to it, maybe.

Oh...I may have done that....so renaming the shortcut can kill it? Interesting. But...it shouldn't do this? After all, you rename shortcuts all the time and they still open up to the appropriate folder, right?

Nevertheless I'm keeping an eye to see if this behavior happens again...and I won't rename it.

It's not really a shortcut, in the sense of a Windows shortcut. What you get on your desktop is a .dcf file which simply runs an Opus command telling Opus to open a named layout.

Well, if that's true...what would it mean if I hadn't renamed it and it still wouldn't open? I'd have to delete it and start over again to get it working. For the sake of arugment...suppose I didn't rename that shortcut...I don't recall if I even did that...but assuming I didn't...what would be causing the dcf file to fail to load?

Leo and Jon mean: renaming the Layout, not the shortcut. If you just rename the shortcut, DOpus still opens the Layout.
But if you rename (or delete) the Layout, the shortcut doesn't work anymore, of course.

I think this may be the culprit from my point of view. I think I may have renamed the lister in the Preference dialog box and closed it. In this case, it's easy to forget that changing the layout name kills the dcf link to the lister.

So you renamed the layout and then expect Opus to check everywhere on your hdd for possible layout shortcuts so that it can modify them? Surely if you purposely rename a layout then common-sense would tell you the old links may not work.
