Maintain checkboxes while navigating folder-to-folder

I'm wondering if there is now any way to maintain selections/check-boxes while navigating from folder to folder. It seems that selections/check-boxes are always reset when you change folders.

The only way I've found to accomplish this is to a) go into Flat Mode, b) sort by location or use Grouped mode,
c) while keeping Flat Mode on, use check-boxes or selections (check-boxes work better since they are more permanent).

When searching for file(s) to collect and ZIP into an archive, browsing folders it is easier to examine them with only a few visible in a folder, than having the entire tree-branch of files visible.

thanks

Checkboxes are never remembered after leaving a folder.

Selections can be, but are also quite fragile. If you go into another folder and then return to the original folder using the history - rather than anything that would cause the folder to be re-read from scratch - then the selected items will be remembered, as long as there haven't been too many other folders put into the history in the mean time.

History means: Using the Back / Forward buttons, and sometimes the Parent button (if Preferences / Miscellaneous / Advanced: go_up_always_back is turned on, or an explicit "Go UP BACK" command is used).

A better way might be to use folder tabs, dual displays, or multiple windows (or a combination of the three) to avoid leaving the folder you're selecting in at all.

Or you could keep track of the things you want to work on by adding them to a collection, which can act like a to-do list of files and folders.
