I know this has been addressed in the past -
just wondering if v.12 handles these things differently? --->
I use the latest Icaros app to show metadata + thumbnails of different media types.
In dOpus, it helps to successfully show "Duration" for .mkv [video] files,
but NOT for its sibling audio type files - .mka.
I do attribute this behaiour to Icaros, and not natively to dOpus,
because if I "deActivate" Icaros, then dOpus does NOT show Duration for .mkv file type.
** In Windows Explorer (Win.7 x64 sp1), the file Properties tag "Length"
does successfully show the " time " for both .mkv and .mka,
while the "Duration" Properties tag column is empty.
I've mucked around in Preferences, and in the File Types config applet,
but haven't even been able to even get ToolTips to show duration/length for .mka,
while ToolTips DO show for .mkv.
Is there any way to accomplish what I want to do?
Sure, I can either just open the file, or R-click & open MediaInfo & get the time info --
but obviously if I can read the desired data instantly/natively in a dOpus column,
then I've saved quite a bit of time during a day going in & out of media files.
btw -- the reason I convert nearly every media to Matroska,
is because I use the wonderful freeware "mkvmerge GUI"
to create Chapter bookmarks, which of course are like Menu points in a DVD --
essential for instant seeking to a desired data point in a multimedia file.
MKV support is built into Windows 10, but earlier versions of Windows will require Icaros or a similar codec/splitter.
If durations are showing for MKV but not MKA within Opus, go to Preferences / Viewer / Plugins and configure the Movie plugin to add the .mka extension to its list. It should then work.
Once more, you've solved my challenge - Thanks so much Leo!
man, every morning I fire up this machine,
and dOpus is like stepping into a Lamborghini -- unparalleled --
Thanks to everyone who makes this masterpiece fly
Since this has been resolved, I dare to ask where is that Icaros codec/splitter thing to be found exactly?
I also would like to show duration for mkv files and since my system currently chokes while playing specific types of mkv (audio breaks/loops suddenly), it might be time to get something different installed. Any hints appreciated, I searched the net myself, but K-Lite Codec package is all that comes up, is this the right thing? It seems to include (some?) of the Icaros stuff(?).
For tbone -- It's been some time since I was on here,
but coming back today I see your post, and wonder -- what media player do you use?
I use Media Player Classic Home Cinema -- Portable, no less! (64-bit on Win.7 Ultimate)
it contains all codecs within it these days -- plays everything I've thrown at it --
including .ts files. Since I play a little with Linux also, I've tried to get comfortable w/
VLC, but it just doesn't customize for me in the minimalist way I prefer, like MPC-HC does.
A few years ago, I'd dutifully install each new release of the CCCC codec package,
but as I said, these days MPC-HC contains it all. I was also a 'victim' some years ago
of the crap that K-Lite installed, but I 'heard' they've cleaned up their act since --
but why bother? when MPC-HC is a self-contained 1-stop-shop?
So I install Icaros separately, which released a new version early 2017 this year.
Best of Luck to you, & to anyone else needing this information.
