Malwarebytes Removed Directory Opus 13.16.12 (Beta) as Ransomware

Malwarebytes removed Directory Opus 13.16.12 (Beta) as ransomware; I never had anything like this happen in many years of using Dopus. Any thoughts? It called it a generic ransomware.

I had the same issue some releases ago: out of the blue (hmmm... actually I think it was while executing a script that was going through a bunch of files/folders under a specfic folder and doing some computing and label assignment) MalwareBytes decided Opus was a malware/ransomware.
I just reinstalled and added opus.exe to the exclusion list in MalwareBytes.

Use VirusTotal to see what other antivirus thinks and confirm it's a false positive. Then tell Malwarebytes, since it's their bug and we can't do anything about it.

It was confirmed this morning as Malwarebytes has quarantined the entire Directory Opus software on the PC, this is a real problem!

I have just emailed the report to your email address on the website

You need to tell Malwarebytes, not us.

We have no control over what their antivirus does. All we can do is recommend using something else (e.g. ESET NOD32).

I have 1.5 million image files on this system, I am extremely concerned about this I have no desire to have to restore these files when it is your software that has been identified as a problem, the correct answer would have been "we will contact Malwarebytes immediately" not to paraphrase it's not our job!

I have contacted Malwarebytes, and due to the time difference it is going to take awhile. In the mean time since you don't think this is an issue, maybe we as users should be posting this issue on numerous message boards. I didn't think so, I have been in business for 50 years I am retired and have a small very small start up before I retired I had 123 direct reports and over 2500 people under my management and if I heard anyone give an answer like you did I would have fired their ass before they could have taken their second sip of coffee. Unfortunately for us we are days before our launch and right now we have to use this software, but I can assure you that unless this is addressed properly I will remove it from this system, and I will make sure it is posted on every damn message board we can find.

I don't understand how you put up with these kinds of people. Sir, 2 + 2 equals 4. If you've been running a business for so many years, logic will tell you what's appropriate for each problem. And if your antivirus is causing problems because it doesn't enter a rule that makes an exception for the program it's detecting incorrectly, read up before threatening and acting like a jerk. This problem occasionally occurs with several antivirus programs. I'm also retired and enjoying life as it should be.

Agree. Is there some reason DOpus can't be added to the allow list in Malwarebytes and @kwl6969 can then just continue getting his product released?

Only satisfying answer is:

"Yes. There is malware in Directory Opus 13.16.12 (Beta). We are retiring the file from our page. We are promising that next version will be published only after consultation with Malwarebytes and only if Malwarebytes software will detect our product as clean. Apologies for all."

There's no malware in any version of Opus (at least versions directly from us or with valid digital signatures).

If your antivirus thinks otherwise, check the signatures on your installer and other exe/dll files, compare results using VirusTotal to confirm your antivirus is the outlier, and talk to the antivirus vendor to get them to fix their mistake.

We can't do anything about it.
