MediaInfo file rollover

There is a beta feature in the program MediaINfo that allows you to rollover any multimedia file and a tooltip will popup in explorer with all of the codec information (ie bitrate, dimensions, etc). However, I cannot get this to work in Opus. Is this even possible? Thanks for your help.

If you go to Settings - File Types in Opus, then open the relevant file types (or File Type Group), you can edit their Info Tips.

Opus lets you insert any of its own fields/columns into the Info Tips, as well as any which are added to Explorer via Shell Extensions.

You can also specify the generic {infotip} which should make Opus pick up whatever is in the Info Tip in Explorer. That should be the quickest way to get the MediaInfo data into Opus's Info Tips.

The {infotip} method worked perfectly...thank you very much

Sorry to bump, but I can't get this to work any more, had no problems in the past.

FileType Groups / (NONE) Movies / I add .mp4 and .mkv extensions / edit / InfoTip / insert Shell Info Tip

The "Shell InfoTip" option is enabled in MediaInfo and also "Enable file InfoTips" is checked in DOpus, but when I rollover, only type, size and date appears, nothing from MediaInfo.

Does the MediaInfo stuff appear in Explorer?

Unfortunately no, so this is probably not a DOpus issue...
Actually I remember uninstalling DOpus just to check, and still no rollover info.

If you're using 64-bit Windows, make sure you have the 64-bit MediaInfo installed. ( mediainfo.sourceforge.net/en/Download/Windows )

hi, i just wanted to share/contribute.. To Whom It May Concern:
In case the Mediainfo tool does not integrate well with Dopus shell (right click context menu, as known from Explorer), then do the following:

  1. Exit Dopus completely
  2. Deinstall MediaInfo. Download latest version and reinstall Mediainfo, preferrably with the Windows Installer (download version).
  3. key step: you must launch Mediainfo once. Set your settings in the Preferences dialog, do some changes here! And finally click on "OK" to force Mediainfo to make those changes on your system (in the registry or wheresoever)
  4. open a single video file. this will initialize the program and (registry) settings.
  5. close Mediainfo. and open Dopus10. The right-click context menu should be there now!, and should work for all video files incl the unregistered video file types (*.mkv, *.mp4, *.flv are not registered in Dopus shell).
  6. In addition, you can now add the infotip in the Dopus shell so that the rollover (this thread topic!) works too; add the file extensions *.mp4, *.mkv and *.flv to the video file type -- because Dopus does not recognize them as video files.

Hope this helps.

Hi,

You don't need to do so many steps, that's what i did:

  1. Go to http://mediainfo.sourceforge.net/en/Download/Windows download the package "GUI (without installer)" and extract MediaInfo.exe/dll and MediaInfo_InfoTip.dll somewhere.

  2. Run mediaInfo.exe and select "Explorer Infotip" (click OK, and exit)

  3. re-start DOpus (didn't tested if it's really required) and follow the Leo's instructions on post #2 of this thread

That's all, MediaInfo Tooltips working on DOpus, quite nice, i would like a info tip similar to the report given by MediaInfoLite, but that's ok as well (better this than nothing..)

Have tried both methods above but neither work on Win7 64bit

Get the correct MediaInfo in explorer win7 64bit

On XP both Opus and explorer give MediaInfo Output

Below is what I get in Win7 x64

Is {infotip} in the tooltip for .MKV (and/or Movies group, if MKV is part of that file type group)?

Add something else (e.g. "Test") to the infotip to verify that the one your are editing is the one actually being used for the filetype.

Leo
Have added test on the line before
{infotip}
When I mouse over an .mkv file I then get the same as in the screen but with test as the first line.
Its not only .mkv the same happens for .avi
I have had a look at the settings on my XP 32bit and they are the same but it works OK XP 32bit
I noticed that both plunder and diegocr are using 32bit one XP one Win7

This was a problem in the past, but the latest versions of Mediainfo solved this, even in Win 7 x64. Sometimes, another installation or codec conflict can disable the tooltip. In such a case, reinstalling MediaInfo solves the problem, or even just disabling and reenabling the tooltip option in MediaInfo. I have {infotip} into DOpus/File Types/File Types Groups (movies, music), adding the extensions that I require.

I found this thread due to my having some issues trying to do the same thing.

After following the instructions in post #2, I am able to get the MediaInfo tooltip for Movies file group defined file types, but only if the file I'm hovering on is on one of my PC's hard drives. It does not show the tooltip in DO if the file is in one of my NAS shared folders.

I've also noticed that when I use Explorer to view NAS files, the MediaInfo tooltip takes slightly longer to appear and is not as reliable (ie, I may have to "re-hover" a couple times before it will show up).

I also tried hovering over other types of files using DO on NAS files to see if tooltips show up, and they don't.

Is there any other setting I need to be aware of in DO to bring in the tooltip functionality for files sitting on my NAS?
