Metadata editing: Fix for inconsistency in tag management in metadata editor

Currently I'm encountering an inconsistency in how Directory Opus handles the entry and storage of multiple tags when and editing tags in the metadata editor under Extended Properties.

When entering multiple tags separated by a comma (e.g., Tag1, Tag2, Tag3), the tags are saved correctly and appear in the auto-suggest list. However, this format does not conform to the specified format in the Directory Opus manual, which states that tags should be separated by semicolons (e.g., Tag1; Tag2; Tag3).

When using semicolons, the tags are saved correctly in the file, but they do not appear in the auto-suggest list. This inconsistency can lead to confusion and an inconsistent user experience.

To improve the usability and consistency of the tag management feature, I suggest the following:

  • Disable the use of commas in the Tags field, or automatically convert commas to semicolons upon entry (as suggested in a previous post).
  • Add an option to easily remove unwanted auto-suggested tag presets from the list (e.g., through a right-click menu or preset (x)).

These changes would make the tag management process more intuitive and conform to the specified format in the manual.

Thank you for your attention to this matter if this resonates with you and fits a future release of DOpus

PS: Is there currently a way to remove unwanted/non conforming presets from the list?

BXL,
I don't have a solution for you, just advice. I am a professional photo organizer.
Never use a comma, a semi-colon or a pipe (|) in a tag/keyword as you have done with names because commas are widely accepted as a separator for keywords. You may get away with it in Directory Opus, but if you want to share photo with others or view them outside of Directory Opus, there will be problems.

@MegMac The auto suggested multi tags in the screenshot above were intentionally (but wrongly, because I should have used a semicolon) separated by a comma to register them as multiple separate tags, not as singles tags with a comma in them.
