Missing Find Settings

I just had to reinstall windows and lost my previous settings, which were working as desired. When in a folder I would start typing (no "*" needed) and the current view would be filtered to only matches for the search string. It didn't just highlight them. I think I need to change a Find-as-you-type setting, but I can't find any such settings in preferences. I have a light license which should have: "Powerful searching, sorting, grouping and filtering functions including integrated Windows Search ", plus it was working before with this license.

There's no setting in Preferences for this in Light, but the Light version would (unintentionally) use the setting if it had previously been saved by the Pro version. I'm guessing you configured things using the Opus Pro trial version, then switched to Light.

With the Light version, you can still get back the behavior, but you'll need to edit a config file to do it.

To make the change:

  • Type /dopusdata/ConfigFiles into the path field and push return to locate your config files.

  • Open prefx.oxc in a text editor (e.g. Notepad).

  • Important: Use File > Exit Directory Opus to fully shut down Opus.

  • Scroll to the bottom of the file and you should see something like the highlighted line:

  • Change the defmode="x" to defmode="-1", save the file, and restart Opus.

Thank you very much. I appreciate that you provided a workaround, had it been suggested I pay more money for this kind of simple feature I would definitely see that as ridiculous and definitely not spent more money.

Might I suggest that settings from all license versions are searchable, but settings such as this are greyed out and then provide a brief reason why, like "not supported with light". Also when you look at https://www.gpsoft.com.au/help/opus12/index.html#!Documents/Findasyoutype_Field.htm, there is no mention of it being restricted to light, and Light vs Pro doesn't go in to enough detail to debug this. Just some ideas, otherwise I'm not sure how I would have found this out without asking here, which we shouldn't have to do, ideally. Thank you.
