I recently became aware that I don't have New in my Lister Context Menu.
If I edit the menu, I see New
but as in the first screenshot, New is not there when right clicking the lister background.

Have you turned on the option to hide Windows items in context menus?
If so, it'll be hidden, unless you hold shift when right-clicking.
Re the "New" item you have, it looks like you have a custom command there. Did you add that to try and get a submenu of the hidden Windows items?
Yes. I"m familiar with that concept in a file context menu. Didn't realize it applied here.
I guess you mean the one that's visible only in customize mode. If so, I see now that it doesn't exist when using a default configuration, so probably I added it sometime for some reason. Since I have no idea why, I've deleted it.
You can add an item with FileType NEWMENU
to the menu if you always want the New menu to appear, even when hiding Windows context menu items.
Normally, when not hiding them, it would be picked up as part of the Lister Context Menu item that's in your menu (and in the default menus). That item generates a list of all the "Windows" items.
Note that if you have both on your menu at once then you'll see two copies of the New menu when you hold shift and right-click.
OK, yes, I modified the messed up New I had before to contain that which, of course, works well. Thanks
