I admit this is bizarre, at least in English.
How about being able to select file(s) and have details rendered in the immediate view to the folder format? Columns for instance . I'm only thinking Details mode at the moment.
I have no complaints about Directory Opus as it is.
I have found that it is better for me at least to just to let them do their thing.

Are you asking for a per file format in addition to a per folder format? Are you asking for a specific format when you click on a file which could be different than the folder's format?
The folder format is inherently a part of the resultant format in either case.
In one case, the folder format is the direct object and in the other case the folder format is the indirect object.
I'm getting into a bit of trouble as my idea originated only with something I really don't know well enough.
