MP3s & the Windows 7 and 8 Music Library

Hi,

I searched but couldn't find a related topic.

Affected platforms: DOpus 10.2.0.0 (4645) x64 in Windows 7 and DOpus beta 10.2.0.1 (4683) x64 in Windows 8.

Set DOpus to display Tiles (showing thumbnails) or to display Thumbnails for the virtual Libraries folders. Add a folder that contains an MP3 file that isn't in a subfolder to the Music Library. The Windows Library icon changes to a flat, 2D DOpus folder icon with the thumbnail of the MP3 file showing. Like so:

AFAICT, only MP3 files do this. Image files not in a subfolder in the Pictures library don't do it, and Apple M4A files not in a subfolder in the Music Library don't do it.

I've tried changing many Folder Options, and all the various Preferences for both Thumbnail file display modes and Native display of Virtual Folders. Nothing made any difference at all. I've skimmed through the Folder FAQs, so if I missed something in there that applies, I apologize.

Thanks,
Jeff

If you have a file called folder.jpg in the root of any library member folder then this will be used as the image for that library when in thumbnails mode. This behaviour is by design (it works for any folder, not just libraries). If you remove the folder.jpg file from your "Amazon MP3" folder it should fix the problem.

Hi jon,

Thanks for the reply. Unfortunately, there are only 3 folder.jpg files on my entire system, and none of them are in any folders that have anything to do with the Music Library. Specifically, there's not one in the "Amazon MP3" folder.

Could anything else cause this behavior?

Thanks for your time,
Jeff

I don't think so - are you sure it's not hidden?
Or in another of the library's member folders?
Can you identify the file that the image in question is actually coming from?

Hi jon,

I had DOpus and Explorer set to show hidden files, but not protected system files. In the Amazon MP3 folder, the folder.jpg file showed up as soon as I set the folder view options to show protected operating system files. I appreciate you reminding me about hidden files. Removing the file as you suggested solved the problem.

How does folder.jpg get into a folder in the first place? Do I have to worry about DOpus or another app putting it back? Bing seems to indicate that it's a manual entry, or maybe one made by WMP.

Thanks for the help (and patience)!

Jeff

Opus doesn't create them. It wouldn't surprise me if it was WMP but I couldn't say for sure.

Thank you. What's important is that they're gone now, and I know what to do if they ever come back.
