My Custom Opus Setup

Hey everyone,

Excited to share my Directory Opus setup with you all! I'm using version 13.13.

I almost never use multiple listers as I find working in tabs to be much more efficient. Neither do I use the folder tree. Here's my default lister which currently shows Quick Access location. Please note that all the icons here are folders and not apps. It may look like apps as I've used custom folder icons.

Since navigation to different important folders is key to me, I've incorporated Quick Access and Drives both in the tool bar and the folder context menu.

And given that I am constantly working with many hundreds (sometimes thousands of files) which requires me to sort and rename them often, I've added a few move/copy commands and modified the existing ones.

As there are multiple ways to open a new tab, i.e. you can open a new tab by pressing ctrl+T or clicking the + button next to the tabs or double clicking the empty space next to the folder tabs, I assigned different commands to different options. Ctrl+T opens a new tab with a particular folder that I use often, the + button opens This PC in a new tab and double clicking the empty space next to the folder tabs opens another location in new tab. I've set the home directory to another folder. I'm yet to configure what happens when I double click empty spaces within the lister (File Displays > Mouse > Background Events).

I now wish that I had learned about dopus many many years ago. Would have saved me a lot of time!! But now, I feel I'm addicted to dopus!! I'll never go back to using windows file explorer ever again!!

Looking forward to hear from you guys!!

Thanks for sharing your Directory Opus setup. I found it instructive how your workflow dictated your setup.

I, too, do not use the tree feature. I find it takes up too much screen space for the gain in folder access. I, too, prefer first level buttons for one click access. OTOH, I always use dual listers.

I appreciated the discussion of the multiple ways to open a tab. I am using the Home button, again.

If you want to see my Directory Opus setup, take a look at Source Menu for Directory Opus 13 - #3 by jinsight

If you want to get the most out of this with the least time, look at two toolbars, -Menu JEG.dop with 741 buttons and -File Display Locations JEG.dop with 184 buttons.

The toolbar, -Menu JEG.dop has a Move button with many ideas on organizing folders with Move.

The toolbar -File Display Locations JEG.dop can give you ideas on how to to get the most access points to folders and files in the least screen space.

Enjoy your addiction.

Thanks for the kind words @jinsight.

I did come across your post in this forum when I was going through the different setups from various users. I only glanced it a week or so ago. I will look into it in detail this time and get back to you.

Just out of curiosity, how much time did it take for you to set it all up??!!

On going since November, 2022 to a lesser or greater extent. You are not the only one with an addiction.
