Need to import settings twice

I have Opus set up so that wen a new lister opens, it opens My Computer in details mode with no tree. (I use details mode in all listers 99% of the time).

I have a saved set of preferences from an initial install of OPus. If I import these preferences, new listers, of course, open to Desktop with tree in large icons.

Suppose I now import saved preferences of my normal setup. New listers now open with My Computer in the tree on the left and the Desktop with large icons in the right pane.

If I now immediately import my saved preferences a second time, new listers then open as I expect (My Computer, no tree, details mode).

I haven't really investigated what else may or may not be restored on the first import, but what I've described in a very repeatable scenario.

Do you have this turned on:

Preferences - Layout - Opening Listers: Update Default Lister settings when Listers are closed ?

If so, I wonder if that is behind what you're seeing? Could you try doing the import and make sure you have closed all existing listers first? Perhaps when Opus shutsdown to reload the config the listers close and overwrite parts of the config. (This is just a guess. Opus may not do this at all.)

I do not have that on.

I've been importing by Settings -> Import and Export -> Import ... (from a lister). This produces the behavior I described.

Your intuition is correct. If I close all listers, right-click the tray icon and then select

Preferences -> Preferences -> Import and Export -> Import ...

the first import succeeds in restoring everything (that I'm aware of).

I have to make a correction here. I said that I do not have

Preferences - Layout - Opening Listers: Update Default Lister settings when Listers are closed

turned on. While that's true of my normal setup, the problematic scenario that I described involved importing my custom settings over default settings and the cited option is on in the default settings which are being replaced. If I turn that option off before importing via

Settings -> Import and Export -> Import -> Import ...

the first import is then successful.

Thanks for the clarification. So it's almost definitely that switch, then. Makes sense now that we've tracked it down. I'll file a bug report.

For a minute, I thought it didn't make sense. I thought why does the second import succeed if the first doesn't.

Then I thought "Maybe I'm just lucky that I have

Preferences - Layout - Opening Listers: Update Default Lister settings when Listers are closed

not on in the preferences I'm trying to restore".

Indeed, if that preference is on in the preferences being restored, it doesn't matter how many times they are restored (with a lister open). It's never successful.
