New QuickShow Feature - refinements

Thanks so much for providing this functionality.

I’ve made some observations and feel I can provide details for a few little refinements.

For info, I have 3 Monitors, a centre ultrawide curved about 90cm wide, and a monitor either side 60cm wide. Centre monitor is for main design apps BricsCAD, Revit, Navisworks etc, left monitor has Directory Opus Dual pane sized to cover almost full width/Height.

I’m always in List view expandable folders and my folders are a typical mix of, dwg, rvt, PDF, jpg/png, xlsx, zip, txt, msg (outlook message files).

1a - If a PDF is selected and I hit Spacebar the PDF always displays on my centre monitor, full width, centralised but only about half height of the monitor. Ideally this should display over the Directory Opus Lister, on my left monitor. Note Click Viewer Pane of selected PDF’s in brackets in titlebar is Microsoft PDF. I have BlueBeam Revu but have WPS Office set as default for PDF because it displays Red icons, that differentiate between BricsCAD, Revit, Navisworks Blue icons but not matter what PDF app I set as default QuickShows displays on centre monitor as described.

1b - Tap arrow down, it doesn’t jump to the next PDF, if there’s only PDF’s it does nothing, if there’s image files in the directory then it jumps to the a jpg/png and this file type is displayed over Directory Opus left monitor, subsequent down arrow taps, will then only display and cycle through png/jpgs ignoring all other file types.

1c - If I start on any other file type beside PDF & png/pdf , hit spacebar the file wiil display on the centre monitor then will jump to an image file and display that on the Directory Opus left monitor and cycle through images ignoring all other file types.

1d - If a png or jpg is selected hit spacebar, the image is displayed over Directory Opus left monitor as large as possible (this is desirable) additional hitting arrow keys will display only image files and cycle through them ignoring other file types, dwg etc.

My Settings for 1a - 1d

2 - Checking ‘Frameless’ preference, select PDF in lister, hit spacebar, Quickshow displays over Directory Opus left monitor, but this time, after hitting down arrow, it jumps directly to an image file ignoring the PDF that’s actually next in the list then cycles the image files ignoring all other file types.

3 - Unchecking Link with Frameless still checked, same behaviour as 2 except this time the highlight selection of file in the lister does not change although images will be displayed in Quickshow.

Screenshot of typical folder contents:

Ideally, i’d like Quickshow to display every file type over the Directory Opus window left monitor, after hitting down arrow keys the next file type to be selected, with Quickshow displaying the preview, irrespective of file type.

Lastly ‘dwg’ ‘rvt’ (Revit Project) and several other file types are displaying as hex.

In contrast, Viewer pane shows a preview for dwg & rvt (Shell Thumbnail) in brackets in titlebar. For dwg probably AutoCAD, BricsCAD needs to be installed. I know the free app Autodesk DWG TrueView will provide thumbnail preview icons, maybe that’s where the Shell Thumbnail source is?

We've added an option for the next beta that will put all file types in the next/previous list rather than only image files.

As far as which monitor it uses goes, it should open on the same monitor as the Lister it was launched from. If it's being moved to a different monitor, is it because the window is too large for the other monitor?

If so, try resizing the window to a size that will fit. The size you set should be remembered for non-image files automatically.

Hey mate,

I’m running beta 1 of 13.18

I’ll test out when beta 2 comes through.

Testing with PDF’s opened in Revu, I’ve resized to fit onto the 27 inch monitor (the one DO has the Lister), and set the PDF size to 100% which are A3 Landscape. 1 sheet fully fits on the display. So what i’m seeing with QuickShow is the PDF on the main 38” monitor stretched full width.

It doesn’t remember size with the settings in the first screenshot, but i’ve just ‘checked’ Maximum Size, set to 100% and can confirm both PDF’s, DWG’s, and all the other file types, now open exclusively on the monitor the Lister is on, and they all seem to retain the 100% consistent size. Yeah this is good.

I’ll have another look in the coming betas for all the file type/s next/previous being shown, then that’d leave only previews for dwgs.

I’m curious, if you guys know the developer of Everything, he’s in Brisbane too I think.

I wonder if Everything can hook into DO’s QuickShow for previews? I tend to have Everything open on my main monitor, QuickShow on that would be cool..hrm anyway good work all the same.
