No longer allowed to drag, i keep getting the no-Drag icon

recently i have been plagued by the occurence of the No-Drag icon whenever i want to drag anything.

I've had years of problemless draging in Dopus.
what is wrong?

i can still copy and move with the menu icons
or by manually Copy and Pasting but no longer by dragging (which is my prefered method)

the Problem started after installing an extra hard disk last month.
I tried to find a solution on this site without result but strangely enough the problem disappeard, but now its back.
unfortunately i don't remeber what i did to make the problem go away.

some guesses:

  • could it be related with F T P? that is where i first noticed it and i had not used it in a very long time.
  • now, when i look at the properties of any folder, they all say "read-only", when i uncheck that box and click OK these folders remain set to read-only on re-opening.
-i did check 'file types'/'all files and folders'/ and made sure that drop was set to 'copy Move'

Please try this and let us know if it solves it:

[Unable to Drag 'n Drop in Dual Lister, Why?)

I followed the mentioned instructions and can now drag again!
also from and to an FTP lister
great.

thanks Leo for your quick response

Any idea what you may have installed or started using recently which may have damaged your registry?

A registry cleaner, perhaps?

A slightly older version of one of the Nero components used to break this when installing but I believe the installer is fixed now. You didn't happen to install any Nero stuff lately, did you?

No Nero related stuff.
i did do a registry clean recently so that could be it.

I noticed i still have a problem whith my dragging.
now when i drag, files are always moved regardless of wether i'm holding the shift key.

my old settings:
drag+shift = move
drag = copy (unless on the same disk)

but now:
drag+shift = move
drag = move (wether on the same disk or not)

the weird thing being that the curser does display the copy '+' when dragging and also when holding the shift-key the '+' does disapear.
but in both cases it behaves the same, files are not copied but moved.

this seems related with the file type settings.
i have changed some stuff in there to try and fix the previous problem.

Do you have any idea how to get my prefered behaviour back?

I'd recommend against running registry cleaners. They all seem to cause problems at times and I can't think of any good reasons to run them. If your registry is so full of junk that it's slowing your PC down then it's time to reinstall Windows.

To get your drag & drop back to normal go to the Opus File Types dialog and edit All folders at the top. Set the drag & drop event to run Copy MOVEWHENSAME

i got the drag and drop working again.
slowly gaining some more understanding of DOpus innerworkings.
(about time after more then 3 years, guess you can call me a shallow user :stuck_out_tongue: )

thanks Leo, your help is much apreciated!

Any time. (Assuming I have electricity. Sigh @ the shoddy power distribution in this part of London. Two 4 hour powercuts in 2 days. Lame!)

This started happening to me over the weekend (lost ability to drag and drop).

In addition I lost most of my file context menu but this only occurs in DOpus - it is still there in Explorer.

I tried uninstalling and after reinstalling everything came back, briefly but it stopped working again.

I tried the reg fix posted above and again after rebooting it appeared to be okay (context menu came back, drag n drop icon was enabled) but failed on the first 'drop' and hasn't worked since. The context menu also disappeared again.

I recently installed Dell bluetooth (WidComm) drivers and PC Suite for my Sony Ericsson phone, don't know if either is to blame.

It looks things initially work after a reboot then something runs and it stops working again.

Any other fixes I can try?

Right, I disabled the bluetooth and PC suite software from running automatically and rebooted and this has changed things.

Now I get the drag n drop icon but everytime I 'drop' I get "the system cannot find the file specified". My context menu seems to be back.

Does dragging work in Explorer for you?

If you enter Customize mode in Opus are you able to drag files to the toolbars, or drag pre-made buttons from the Customize dialog to the toolbar?
