Is there an option to prevent a folder being opened from the Windows desktop, for instance, from opening a new DO window and closing all existing tabs, and instead opening in a new tab next to existing tabs? I have already checked "open external folders in a new tab" in the "explorer replacement" preferences and this didn't do it.

Did you also turn on the other option right below that one? Sounds like you want both.
