OpenEXR support in the viewing pane

I would love to see the OpenEXR image format supported in the viewing pane and in thumbnails. This is a fairly new opensource format developed by ILM, and it is fast becomong the standard format for everyone working in 3D graphics, compositing etc. We are almost exclusively rendering all our work to OpenEXR before compositing and output now, and I miss being able to see thumbnails etc. in DOpus.

If implemented, it is very important that there is some way to adjust the exposure while viewing.

I wonder if an adapter plugin could be written which allows Opus to use any Photoshop plugin to display images? I've never looked into the Photoshop API so I don't know if Adobe do things to prevent other programs using PS plugins but it would be pretty cool if it's possible.

Ah, bugger:

In 2002 Adobe restricted access to the Photoshop SDK, which contains the specifications for Photoshop plugins, so it can be expected that these incompatibilities may increase. Developers of other image applications don't have any access to it anymore, so they can't support newer plugin features. However, plugin developers who want to make their plugin compatible with a large variety of applications, should anyway use the old SDK from Photoshop 3.05 or 4.0, which already includes all important specifications.

Currently you have to become an ASN member for $195/year in order to obtain the SDK. Previous Version of the SDK were offered for free. You can find previous versions of the SDK on the Photshop 3/4/5/6 CD-ROMs. The older Photoshop SDKs (3/4/5/6) can also be used to create plugins for Photoshop 7, CS and CS2. For making your plugins compatible to as many other graphics applications you should better use an older version of the Photoshop SDK and test them with as many applications as possible.

So much for that idea, though I guess some plugins will be written using the old API.
